Goodreads

Goodreads

If you are an author or a reader, this is a site you need to be associated with. At www.goodreads.com you will be required to sign up as a user. To sign up on this site is absolutely FREE! If you are an author, this site is great for exposure and interacting with readers, other authors and bloggers.

What I really like about this site is if you are self-published you can add your book to their data base, as long as you have a valid ISBN number for your book.

Goodreads is also associated with a lot of major online book distributors for ex. KOBO. Every time someone posts a review on Goodreads about your book, it shows up on the distributors website as a valid review.

This site also has thousands of different groups and discussions you can join. Goodreads really enables you to interact with thousands of different people.

Goodreads also offers advertising for authors. They have different adverting packages for you to choose from at a reasonable price.

Joins discussions and groups, build yourself followers and friends!

Twitter

I never really understood how twitter worked at first. But after really looking into it, I discovered it's actually a great tool that I think all authors, bloggers, editors etc. should have.

Here is the trick with twitter, it's all about the hashtags. #author #indie #writer etc. Adding these key hashtags into your tweets allows more people to come across your tweets thus generating new followers.

As an author on twitter you need to remember to tweet about different things. Every tweet cannot consist of "Buy my book". Tweet about things that interest you as well. Obtain followers who have the same interest.

If you are making a tweet about your book be sure to include the #RT (re-tweet). That way your followers will re-tweet you and help spread your message to their followers. It's a chain reaction.

Giveaways

The great thing with ebooks is that you can give copies away for free and it wont cost you, the author, a  penny. Unlike giving away paperbacks from your inventory, you still had to buy your book at cost. With ebooks, it's all online. I have to say, I really like this online business!

When you have a new release, you want to be sure to give copies away for free to individuals who would be willing to write a review for you. I know you might be thinking that you worked way to hard to write your book to give it away but the reviews you receive will only help you sell copies! Not only do you obtain reviews, which are crucial, but it gives your book exposure! Get people talking about it.

Another great way to utilize giveaways is by connecting with book bloggers and giving them a free copy which they can give away to one of their lucky followers. People are always excited and happy to win anything, why not your book?
